All About Us

Hackney Community Transport (HCT) was originally founded in 1982 when around 30 local community groups in the London Borough of Hackney pooled their vehicle resources, providing low cost minibuses to help our community to get out and about.

As the organization has grown across London, into Yorkshire, the Channel Islands, the Northwest, Derbyshire and the Southwest, becoming HCT Group in 2008, we have never neglected our Hackney roots. In Hackney, we are still Hackney Community Transport and we still provide our founding range of services, plus many more.

Minibus hire – a low cost alternative: We provide community groups, clubs and non-profit organizations with a financially supported scheme to access cheap minibuses – Group Transport. This service is financially supported by Hackney Council and by money reinvested from HCT Group’s commercial contracts.

Minibus driver training: We provide Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme (MiDAS) training, helping our community group members driver vehicles themselves, saving on having to hire a driver with their vehicle. This service is financially supported by Hackney Council and by money reinvested from HCT Group’s commercial contracts.

Route 812: A unique community-designed hail and ride route that, whilst open to all, comes into its own helping older and disabled people to get out and about.

Mobility scooters: Working in partnership with several local authorities in London, we deliver a variety of innovative schemes that loan out or hire mobility scooters for people who would not otherwise be able to access them.
